Experiments with illustrations and videos done with coding – most of the time using P5.js (AKA Processing for JavaScript), but also using sometimes D3, and with a little help of other tools such as Photoshop.

Red Button

The science fiction/scientific promotion project from Suplemento Pernambuco, a literary suplement from Brazil, had at its beginning the idea of using glitch or weird effects as a way to reflect a series of stories that have fantastic or reality-bending details.

Most of these were done as P5 sketches - usually a photo being manipulated and saved afterwards. A series of 12 throughouth 2020 and 2021.

Several projects done for the Opinion section.

AI Realism

Op-ed saying that between the doomsayers and the cult-like worshipers, there should be a middle ground on how to view AI and its daily use. Using Bosch’s “Garden of Earthly Delights” as a base, I used P5 to make a quick animation of the Heaven and Hell scene being deconstructed.


Autonomous cars

Editorial on driverless cars and their impact. Tried a P5 animation integrated with the header, so it would be always responsive without needing to upload several versions of a video. Used P5-wrapper to make it work with our internal dev tools (which use React).


How my Twitter profile was hacked

A personal essay about Shadi Hamid’s Twitter profile being hacked took me to do a halftone/ASCII version of his headshot, P5 again. Sad that I didn’t have time to finish the video version…
